I can't even remember how long we've been working on this song. The basic structure of the song came together pretty quickly, but then we started experimenting. First, there was the guitar synthesizer. Both Chis and I have used Roland guitar synths in the past, but there are new guitar synth pedals from Boss and Electro-Harmonix that work a bit differently and we like them a lot better. So we started adding layers of new sounds and experimenting with different parts. I think we recorded more versions of different parts than all of the other tracks in the song combined. In the end, we just went through and picked pieces and parts to keep in the final mix, hence the title, "Natural Selection."
